Main purpose of the present study is to reveal factors that affect teachers’ cultural capital competencies and to reveal what should be done to improve teachers’ competencies of cultural capital. In this study the main question is “What are the factors that affect teachers’ cultural capital competencies?” This research is significant in terms of determining the factors that affect teachers’ cultural capital competencies, giving suggestions to improve teachers’ cultural capital competencies. The study group consists of 29 teachers teaching in middle schools in Gaziantep in the academic year of 2015-2016. Participants were selected via convenient sampling method. The research is a case study from the qualitative research patterns. For data collection, individual qualitative semi-structured interviews were conducted. A content analysis method is used for the evaluation of the data. According to the study results; it is concluded that teachers are interested in going to the cinema, going to theatre, joining trips, attending courses, reading scientific publications, reading regularly books and newspapers, and historical events to improve their cultural capital competencies. It was also found thatpersonal factors, professional factors and environmental factors affect teachers’ cultural capital competencies positively. It was concluded from the research that not having enogh support from the family, having family responsibilities, having a child, economic problems, workload, not having enough support from the administrators, marital status and not being interested in cultural events affect teachers’ cultural capital competencies negatively. Moreover, teachers who have well educated and have high socio-economical status family, are more likely to improve their cultural capital competencies. On the other hand, having many siblings, having family lives in rural areas and being the first of the family affect teachers’ cultural capital competencies negatively. Also, most of the teachers note that in-service training is not effective to improve their cultural capital competencies because of losing of time, not improving, content deficiency and not having academic studies.
