With general definition, emotional intelligence is the art of emotions' expertly usage, and this skill is very significant for teachers. With this research, it is aimed to discuss about emotional intelligence to some variables and to determine the perception level of secondary schools' teachers' related to their emotional intelligence. The data were collected via the descriptive survey research in quantitative method. The sample of the study with the stratified sampling method consists of 224 public secondary school teachers in Buca-İzmir in 2014-2015 academic year. The data was collected with “Bar-On Emotional Intelligence Scale”. To analyze the data, arithmetic mean and standard deviation were checked and to understand any significant difference between arithmetic mean and independent groups, t-test and one way variance analysis were implemented. To determine the differences between the groups, Scheffeé test were used. The statistical results are demonstrated that the perception levels of secondary schools' teachers about emotional intelligence have rangedas positive in total scale as well as the dimensions are "self-awareness", "interpersonal skills", "adaptation", "stress management" and "general mood". According to this result, teachers' are more successful in social-personal relationships. Perception of teachers about emotional intelligence of secondary school teachers vary with gender variable in favor of female in total scale and overall dimensions; with age variable is in favor of the younger in total scale and in "interpersonal skills", "adaptability" and "general mood" dimensions; with experience variable is in favor of new teachers in total scale and "adaptability" and "general mood" dimensions. With branch variable is in favor of linguistically, science and technology teachers, and according to some situation, mathematic, primary school and visual arts teachers in total scale and "self-awareness" and "stress management" dimensions. It did vary with educational level of teachers' variable in "adaptability" dimension in favour of teachers who were graduated teachers training school. It is suggested that emotional intelligence be analyzed for teachers and manager in other educational levels and through the courses, workshops and seminars and the opportunity to develop their emotional intelligence for teachers be presented.
