ABSTRACT
In this study it is aimed to evaluate school principals’ administrative characteristics and styles in terms of management theories. The study was designed in quantitative research pattern and survey model. The sample group consists of 850 teachers working in Trabzon city centre. Data was obtained through the Management Styles Scale developed by researchers. 20.7% of teachers stated that school principals are fatherly-insightful, 15.9% helpful, 15.4% democratic-participatory, 13.9% equippedlead manager, 13.9% normative, 8.1% dependence to the legislation, 7.4% saviour of the day, and 4.7% authoritarian. The school principals’ administrative styles are compliance with scientific management X =3.13, management processes X =3.09, bureaucratic management X =3.23, the human relations approach X =3.52, behavioural approach X =3.46, systems approach X =3.36, TQM approach X =3.59, and leadership approach X =3.42. Teachers’ opinions are differed statistically in terms of gender and school type variables. Teachers’ opinions are not differed statistically in terms of professional seniority variable.
