ABSTRACT
The aim of this study to develop a valid and reliable scale that can measure teacher perceptions towards kiss up and kick-down type managers. Kiss-up-kick-down managers can take charge in the middle or upper levels in an organization and they behave politely towards their colleagues and superiors, whom they cannot gain psychological superiority. They speak highly of them and urge their subordinates to
follow the orders of their superiors unconditionally. Kiss up and kick down management is a neologism used for managers with this type of perspective. It is known that such managers exist. In the literature review, no study was found that could measure the characteristics of kiss up kick down managers. For this reason, there was a need to develop a scale in this regard. For the validity and reliability study of the Kiss
Up and Kick Down Manager Scale (KUKDMS), respectively; Data collected from 329 and 211 teachers via online form; Analyzes were made using statistics programs. Concluding that KUKDMS items are suitable for Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA); It was concluded that the KMO value was .800 and the Bartlett's Test of Sphericity result was found to be significant (χ²=3118,284, df = 136; p < .01). As a result of the EFA, which was first done with the data collected from 329 participants, it was seen that the BTYS, consisting of 17 items, revealed a stable structure under four factors. Factors of BTYÖ; It was named as “perception of merit”, “perception of protocol”, “perception of cooperation” and “perception of organizational justice”. While the whole scale explained 67.26% of the total variance, the Cronbach Alpha reliability coefficient was found as α = .79. As a result of the first level CFA performed with the data collected from 211 participants, it was concluded that the model was suitable and the correlation between factors and items was at a good level (χ2 =271,028; df=106; p<.01). As a result of the research, the development of the Kiss Up and Kick Down Manager Scale (KUKDMS), its validity and the correlations between each other and the items of the subdimensions and the model that defines 17 items in four dimensions can be accepted; shows that it can be used in related studies
