In this study, it was aimed to develop a valid and reliable Likert-type scale to measure school principals’ attitudes toward the profession of principalship, and to examine whether these attitudes differ based on their seniority in the profession and whether they chose the principalship willingly. The research is a descriptive study based on the survey model. Two study groups, including a total of 463 school principals, were utilized. Exploratory Factor Analysis was conducted with the first group, and Confirmatory Factor Analysis with the second group. The principals’ attitudes were examined using the data from the second. Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) value of the dataset was found to be .86, and Bartlett’s Test of Sphericity was significant. The factor analysis revealed a three- factor structure. These factors were named ‘liking the profession’, ‘valuing the profession’ and ‘adaptation to the profession’. The first factor explained 24.37% of the variance, the second 20.93%, and the third 16.10%. In the CFA conducted to test the structure of the scale, the values (2/df ratio= 1.4; TLI= .96; IFI= .97; CFI= .97; GFI= .94; AGFI= .91; RMR= .03; RMSEA= .04) indicated an excellent fit, while NFI= .90 indicated an acceptable fit. The Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient of the scale was calculated as 0.84. As a result of the EFA and CFA, a valid and reliable scale consisting of 14 items was developed to measure school principals’ attitudes toward their profession. Significant differences were found in somedimensions of the scale depending on school principals’ seniority in the profession, their willingness in choosing the profession, and whether they perceive principalship as a profession.
