School dormitories has been an important element of access to education for parents and their children as a result of both the lack of educational institutions in the surrounding environment and the placement according to the exam results. The aim of this research is to determine the opinions of students staying in the dormitories of secondary education institutions about the dormitories in Yakutiye town Erzurum city. This research was done on the basis of phenomenology pattern that is among the qualitative research methods. The study group of the research is made up of students staying in the dormitories of Anatolian, Science and Vocational High Schools of Yakutiye town and Erzurum city. In this research 61 students were evaluated by random sampling method. Research data were obtained by semi structured interview form. Content analysis method was used in the analysis of the obtained data. According to the research results, it was determined that most of the students had difficulty in adjusting to school dormitories. The mostly stated view experienced by students who had troubles in adjusting to school dormitories are the expressions that they have a long for their families mostly. Some other troubles the students lived are the expressions like unacquaintance with students, coming together with unknown students and the meals. The mostly stated view experienced by students who had no troubles in adjusting to school dormitories are the expressions that there is a good friendship. It was determined that the mostly stated evaluation the dormitory students experienced in their lives differently was to stand on their feet by themselves. The other changes of being a dormitory students are the expressions that they became organized and disciplined ones, contributed much to study lesson, gained responsibility and stayed away from their families. It was also determined that the mostly stated evaluation by the students on the positive sides of the dormitories is that the positive attitudes of the teachers in charge of the dormitories however, negative sides of the dormitories are that there was a lack hygiene. Prison, home and orphanage words were mostly stated by the students in expressions of their school dormitories. Some suggestions may be presented from the results of this research. According to this, orientation studies can be carried out to make it easier for students to adapt to the dormitory. The dormitories can be provided with more resources in order to provide a higher quality nutrition, cleanliness and health care and the possibility of participation in social activities.
