ABSTRACT
The visit of Syrians for nearly a decade, who took refuge in our country with the civil war started in their country, seems to continue with many social problems. These problems due to the period they are in mostly affect children and the young. However, the integration potential of these groups offers them the opportunity to build a future by adapting to new conditions as well. The cultural and social climate of the school on the one hand provides Syrian students with a acculturation environment, on the other hand it creates a place where they will be happy and becomes the place for their secondary socialization. In this study, which investigated what kind of experiences Syrian students had in schools in the context of socialization, in-depth interviews and participant observation techniques from qualitative data collection techniques were used. Because of the ease of transportation for the researcher, Çarşamba district has been determined as the study area. As of the beginning of the 2019-2020 academic year, in Çarşamba 43 Syrian students in total are studying. Within the scope of this research, the schools attended by 6 of these students were visited and semi-structured interviews were carried out with the students. In the first part of the study, a conceptual analysis was conducted with the literature review under the title of Migration and Education, Socialization and the Functions of School, in the second part the method of the study was explained and in the third part the findings obtained were described. As a result of the study, it has been determined that the Syrian students' adaptation problems decrease when they encounter a general acceptance in the school climate. Besides, as the schooling time of the students in Turkey increases, it has been observed that the students develop a sense of belonging to Turkey. In the study, it is recommended that students be supported in terms of psycho-social-cultural aspects with qualified support programs.
