ABSTRACT
In this study, it is aimed to determine the opinions of school administrators about the amendments made on 1 March 2024 in the regulation on selection and assignment of administrators published on 5 February 2021. In addition, the opinions of school administrators about the regulation on selection and assignment of administrators dated 5 February 2021, which was applied before the amendments were made, were also taken. Within the scope of the research, questions were also asked to determine the opinions of school administrators regarding the appointment and evaluation of current administrators and first-time administrators in educational institutions. total of 21 school administrators, 11 principals and 10 vice principals, working in Niğde in the 2023-2024 academic year. The data were collected with a semi-structured interview form, field notes were taken during the preparation of the interview form and previously issued regulations were examined. The collected data were analysed using content analysis. As a result of the research, it was observed that the majority of school administrators had positive opinions about the current regulation before the amendment. The current regulation issued in 2021 was evaluated positively by school administrators in terms of emphasising merit and encouraging school administrators to work, and negatively in terms of evaluation criteria. The amendments to the regulation dated 1 March 2024 were evaluated positively by school administrators in terms of the regulation containing simple and clear criteria, and negatively in terms of bringing seniority to the forefront. In addition, it was stated that these amendments to the current regulation do not support the work done within the school, are not based on merit, do not support professional and personal development, and do not provide advantages to administrators who want to continue in the same educational institution. Regarding the reassignment process of the current administrators, the majority of the school administrators wanted the contribution to school development to be supported, merit to be prioritised, school administration to become a profession and evaluation to be made according to the region and school they work in. The same participants stated that a written exam should be held for those who will be school administrators for the first time. According to the results of the study, a long-term appointment policy can be established by considering the expectations of school administrators while determining school administrator selection and assignment policies, and concrete and measurable criteria can be determined and implemented.
