ABSTRACT
The aim of this study is to determine the levels of fear of being without a telephone (nomophobia) among teachers and school administrators. In this study, the relational survey model was used, which is one of the quantitative research methods. The population of the study comprised 678 administrators and 5800 teachers working in public schools in Denizli province. The sample was determined using the convenience sampling method. Convenience sampling offers a quick and practical approach to research. The sample consisted of 394 education professionals, including 308 teachers and 86 administrators. In the study, "The Nomophobia Questionnaire" developed by Yıldırım and Correia (2015) and adapted into Turkish by Yıldırım, Şumuer, Adnan and Yıldırım (2016) was used. The scale consists of 20 items. Prior to conducting the analyses, it was assessed whether the data exhibited a normal distribution. The data were determined to be normally distributed and parametric tests were used in the analyses. Upon analysis of teachers' and school administrators' fear levels regarding being without a telephone, it is evident that they experience “a moderate” level of fear. In the sub-dimensions of Not Being Able to Communicate, Not Being Able to Access Information, and Giving Up Convenience, it was determined that they also experienced nomophobia at "moderate" level. They only experience a "mild" level of fear in the dimension of Losing Connectedness. There is no significant difference in nomophobia levels between school administrators and teachers based on their duties. It found that those that were female, younger, less experienced and more familiar with social media are more likely to experience nomophobia. It has been observed that individuals who use their phones more frequently on a daily basis, as well as those with postgraduate degrees, experience this fear to a greater extent than others. To reduce or eliminate these fears, people can get away from their phone and do activities such as reading, sports, meditation, yoga, art or music. It is seen that the studies conducted in the literature are generally on young people and students. Therefore, research on different age and occupational groups can be a contribution to the field. Furthermore, it is possible to investigate the correlation between the levels of nomophobia among teachers and administrators and their work productivity, performance, general cynicism levels, and social well-being.
