ABSTRACT
The aim of this research is to examine the views of school administrators on the fact that school administration is a professional career field. For this aim, it has been tried to determine the thoughts of school administrators about professional school administration, the determination of problems that may be encountered in practice, the solution suggestions of school administrators for these problems, the selection and training of professional school administrators, and the characteristics that professional school administrators should have. The research was carried out in an exploratory case study pattern, which is one of the case studies in qualitative research methods. Within the scope of the research, the data were collected using a semi-structured interview form. The study group of the research consists of 19 school administrators who were determined by the maximum diversity sampling method, one of the purposive sampling methods. The obtained data were analyzed using descriptive analysis technique. When the findings obtained in line with the sub-problems of the research are examined, it is a positive development that school administration is a professional career field; taking the merit and career system as a basis for the selection and training of professional school administrators; among the qualities that professional school administrators should have are leadership skills; being a leader, visionary and fair are expected from professional school administrators; communication problems are a problem that may be encountered in professional school management practice; In-service training is also indicated for the solution of problems that may be encountered in the practice of professional school management. As a result, the necessity for professional school management must be a separate profession; it is possible to choose and train professional school administrators with the merit and career system; Leadership skill is stated as the characteristic that a professional school administrator should have, and it is expressed that professional school administrators should be leader, visionary and fair. In addition, it is concluded that school administrators may have some communication problems in the processes of professional school management and these problems can be solved with in-service training. In order to transform professional school management into a career field, accountability can be ensured based on merit and objective criteria in the selection, appointment and training process of school administrators. In addition, the research can be repeated by using different methods and techniques by reexamining the relevant national and international literature in the context of this subject
