In this research, it was aimed to examine the effect of elective mind games course taken by secondary school seventh grade students on their problem solving and creative thinking skills. The research consisted of a mixed method, quasi experimental model from quantitative methods and case study from qualitative methods. For the quantitative dimension of the research, the study group was a total of 40 seventh grade students in a secondary school in Siirt, in 2021-2022 academic year, 20 students in the experimental group who chose the elective mind games course and 20 students in the control group who did not choose this course. In addition, the qualitative dimension of the research consisted of the students in the experimental group. In the analysis of quantitative data, non-parametric tests, Wilcoxon signed-rank test for related measurements, and Mann Whitney U-test for unrelated measurements were used. In qualitative data, descriptive analysis technique was used. The results of the research revealed that mind games course significantly affected problem solving and creative thinking skills. The opinions of the students after the experimental intervention about this experience also supported this. It can be suggested that mind games course, which has a significant effect on problem solving and creative thinking skills, should be applied in other educational levels and necessary workshop environments should be created for this. In secondary school education programs, elective courses such as self-knowledge and discovering the talents of the individual can be included. In order to reach more people in different platforms of social life, mind and intelligence games activities can be expanded, as they are taught as an academic course in undergraduate programs in teacher training.
