ABSTRACT
In this study, the application of Total Quality Management in educational institutions, the historical development of it and the quality in education was evaluated. In addition, application and mentality of total quality management (TQM) in education was analysed depending on the opinion of principals. The study claims and illustrates that this management type which is based upon quality in education and the satisfaction of customer intruding companies can be applied to vocational and technicians in the society. Total quality management in education, the advantages of total quality management in education and applications were inquired. Qualitative research methodology was employed, using phenomenology to collect and analyze the interpretations and meanings of principals’ opinions as drawn from their responses to open ended semi structured questions. The research group consists of volunteer principals who were employed in the district and province of Duzce city in Turkey. According to results of the study principals are in needs of comprehensive and informative seminars and courses about total quality management. They have something in their minds about quality management and try to perform it on their own which is greatly far from what is being explained in literatüre about total quality management. Their main motivation is to fulfill formal responsibilities with graphic and charts there were required irrelevant to mainstream consideration about quality management.
